Peter Bengry began experimenting with rhythm as a child and has developed expertise in percussion over the last 10 years. He is self taught and believes that this has helped him to create his own style.

PETER BENGRY
Has always had a great love of rhythmical and percussive music and feels this has influenced his taste and style, which he introduced to help create the sound of Corner shop when joining them in 1995.

BANDS
Peter has worked with many bands, probably the most well known being "Cornershop" and has played alongside bands such as BECK, OASIS, PULP, BEASTIE BOYS, to name but a few. He has played major venues throughout the U.K., Europe, U.S.A. and Japan.

CORNERSHOP
Whilst with Cornershop his musical knowledge and experience has broadened allowing him more freedom for self expression and experimentation.

From the album 'When I Was Born For The 7th Time'

"The loose, rolling grooves produced by the wonderful percussionist Peter Bengry transported the collective psyche toward an altered state"

The Guardian

TELEVISION

He has appeared with Cornershop on numerous television programmes such as: Top Of The Pops, Blue Peter, MTV (Alternative Nation), TFI Friday, Pepsi Chart Show, Later with Jools Holland etc.

During this period he has built up a considerable collection of percussion instruments ranging from "traditional" to more diverse instruments from various parts of the world.

At the age of ten I travelled to Africa where I first discovered real percussive music. Experiencing the true nature of African drumming, listening to both local drummers and some of the best drummers in the country. This experience inspired my interest in percussion and has encouraged me to incorporate world percussion into my own and other's music. I feel music is an excellent way of breaking down barriers, as it inspires creativity and allows people to express their emotions in a universal language.
